Janusz Korczak – Polish teacher, doctor and writer, of Jewish origin. In August 1942, having the opportunity to escape, he chose to die in the gas chamber of the Treblinka extermination camp along with the children from the orphanage, which he led. When germans gave him documents and asked him to leave the ghetto, he replied:

“You can’t leave your child in misfortune, illness, danger, and here are two hundred children. How can I leave them alone in a gas chamber?”
