A monochrome or monochromatic image, object or palette is composed of one color. Images using only shades of grey are called grayscale or black-and-white.

Moisei Solomonovich Nappelbaum (1869-1958), one of Russia’s greatest photographer portraitist, created portraits of politicians, scientists, artists, sculptors, poets, composers, and actors in his studio on Nevsky Prospect[]. In his works, with skilful usage of light, Nappelbaum placed the most important emphasis on the human face.
