Bodybuilding Pioneer

In 1886, fleeing from pogroms, married couple Karl and Rose Leibowitz fled from Odessa to the United States. They had four children. One of them, John Paul, became a wealthy lawyer in Washington.

Bodybuilding pioneer Charles Atlas was John Paul’s family trainer. John’s passion for sports reached the point that his daughter Jacqueline (pictured in 1948) ran away from home and became an acrobat.

Jacqueline loved sports and the stage. After getting married, she passed on these passions to her eldest son, Sylvester Stallone.
