The Codex Gigas, known as the Devil’s Bible, is the largest and most mysterious manuscript in the world. Written in Latin in the 13th century, the meter-long manuscript requires two people to lift and more than 160 skins were used to create the book.
According to legend, the Codex was written in just one night by a monk condemned to be walled up alive, with the help of the devil. However, researchers believe that the work took at least 25 years. Today the manuscript is kept in the National Library of Sweden (Stockholm) and has been fully digitised for study.
